Small Pox - A highly contagious eruptive fever, which begins with shivering, alternating with burning heat, drowsiness, nausea, often vomitting, headache, pain in the back and bones and sometimes sore throat. Then fever comes on, pulse becomes quick and the temperature goes up to 104 degree or 105 degree. After 2 or 3 days an eruption of raised red spots appears on the face and forehead when temperature falls to 101 degree or 102 degree. The longer the eruption is in appearing the less serious does the disease prove. On the third and fourth days, the eruption spreads over the body; on the fifth day each pimple becomes a vescicle with watery head, round base central depression and inflammed margin. This central depression helps to distinguish this disease from chicken pox. During the next 3 days' matter' forms in vescicles and there appears the peculiar smell of small pox. About the tenth day pustules begin to dry up, first on the face and then on hands and feet and about 14th day they form scabs, which fall off from the twentieth to the twenty third day often leaving ' pits'. As the eruption attains its height, the fever generally increase for 2 or 3 days, temperature rising again to 104 degree or 105 degree. This is called the secondary fever of small pox and usually occurs about eleventh day, which is the period in bad cases of the greatest danger from exhaustion. There is sometimes delirium. Thuja both as preventive and curative - 1 pill of Thuja 200 once a fortnight as preventive. Thuja 30 thrice daily is a good curative. Also mixture of FP 12x, KM 3x and KS 3x. In small pox, all the rash come out together and dry up together but in chicken pox, they are to be found in all stages while some are drying up, others are coming out freshly and so on. The patient should be isolated as much as possible, if practicable to a separate building. The room should be well ventilated but should not be kept too cold. The clothes and bedding should be disinfected. Begin with KM 3x and later add KP 3x, NM 3x and NP 3x. Mixture of CS 3x or 12x, CS 3x, FP 12x, KM 3x, KP 3x, NM 3x, NP 3x and S 12x every 2 or 3 hours, failing which KS 3x. Variol 30 - 1 pill twice daily is good curative and also preventive. Antim Tart 6 or 30 or Puls 6 or 30 very useful. Preventive - During an epidemic of small pox, the use of KM 3x alone or mixture of KM 3x and NS 3x (one dose every morning prevents the attack or considerably lessens its severity. |
